2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse

The 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse is completely redesigned for the new model year, with changes from bumper to grille.

Still available as a 4-cylinder GS or V6 GT model, the 2006 Eclipse now has sleek styling, additional power as well as new safety features as its most noticeable improvements this year.

The base GS model comes with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and gains 15 horses this year for 162 horsepower; GT coupes now have a 3.8-liter V-6 engine with 263 horses, and increase 53 horses over the '05 models.

The new safety safety features on the Mitsubishi Eclipse include front torso side airbags on both models, as well as head-protecting curtain side airbags for driver and front passenger.

Our initial take on the 2006 Eclipse is positive. Handling and acceleration, especially with the V6, are quite good but lack of room in the rear and noise levels are once again an issue. Controls and gauges are well positioned and easy to use.

Overall the new Mitsubishi Eclipse is definitely worth a look, and is a worthy adversary for its competitors, namely the Scion and Acura's GT.
